I would really like to open up dialogue about class. I think it is important for us as actors/actresses to ask smart questions of ourselves and our talent, rather than indulging in confusion and self criticism.
So I ask, who would you call back after todays class and why?
We have so many responsibilities as actors.
We need to do the work.
We need to fit the role.
We need to put the room at ease.
The list goes on and on some days. It changes from project to project, role to role, director to director. We must be focused, adaptable and connected. It is a tall order, but to get paid incredibly well to do what you love requires that we show up completely.
So, let's take a look at what that means. Let's discuss who really brought it.
I would like to discuss Elizabeth. For those of you who know her well you may be pleased with her pushing into such an edgy character. It isn't something that has been with her all along. The audition she constructed really showcased how hard she has been working in her process. I bought it, 100%. However, it wasn't just the acting that raised the stakes for her. It was the risks she took physically, her command of the material and the room, and her flawless technique. Smart. Sexy. Funny. Complicated. Congrats. I would say one of the most thorough auditions in class.
Monica, I loved watching how something that felt obligated evolved very quickly into a fleshed out woman. We had humor, relationship, likability. Everything we need to cast something like that. I would say trust your instincts. They are right on the money. Sometimes if we aren't behind them all the way, we can waiver slightly in front of the lens. Good work.
Here is the other thing I would like to throw out there. Everyone has an opinion. I have commented on two auditions. Would love to hear what everyone else is thinking.
Callbacks next week.
x
Jen
