Take the plunge. Move as far away from your preconceived ideas of how the scene should play itself out. Find out what else wants to happen!
Some really good work today. We got under the skin of some of these characters and really took some interesting risks.
Katie, you didn't wait for a line or a place in the script when you would show us how you felt about your situation, you were loaded from the get go. Emotionally that is where the scene starts for you. It is great to see an actor own their creativity fully and not make excuses for what is going on. You should be feeling what you feel throughout the scene just make sure it doesn't become the only thing being expressed.
Marissa & Halley I commend both of you for taking risks with expressing your sexual desires. Sometimes these scenes can be the most uncomfortable to have to play in front of the camera because they are deeply personal and intimate and very exposing. Keeping your eye on the goal, on your objective will give the permission to take whatever risks you need to in order to obtain that objective. Explore how far you can go before deciding when to hold back and when not to.
Deb, your close-up today was radiant! Everything was being felt. Everything resonated with you on some level and the effect it had on you was so beautifully nuanced and deeply moving.
Scott, your performance today was very touching and heartbreaking. When it comes to being emotionally available you are there. There were so many elements at play for you and I felt that you handled it all masterfully. As we continue working with specific shots we will hone in on the performance for the camera so that we don't lose a moment of all that you have to offer. The technical will become part of the creative process.
Sam, I feel that you took a step forward today with allowing yourself to be vulnerable, open and conflicted. When you allow yourself to be open that way in a scene of that nature it just makes the sparks fly and we are with you on that ride. Some many wonderful and interesting qualities came out that made for such interesting and entertaining behavior. Good for you!
Laurent, welcome back. Very good work today. When your raise the emotional level of the character to meet the circumstances of the scene then we have engaging drama. The desperation you felt at your situation was moving and frightening. You were fully connected to the circumstances and where you were coming from that it made us question how much longer you could possibly survive your situation. Keep risking and see how much further you can go.
Jerry, your work today was focussed and grounded. I felt you had a strong sense of what was at stake and you played it very methodically. I believe that there is room for you to risk more emotionally because I know there is more going on inside you than you let on. Our initial impressions of the characters we take on can serve us well if we allow them the room they need to fully express what is going on. What I mean by "them" is YOU! Risk going against what you think is right and purposeful and see what happens.
Alex, you are growing and growing with each class. Always ready to work and always present. Your connection to the material is right on. Your close ups, as we saw today can express everything you need to express. We will continue exploring the wider shots and getting you more into your body.
Throw caution to the wind. Risk it all!
Paolo.
