Living Off the Page

Writing and Acting are not the same animal.

I have all the respect in the world for the work of a writer and have never been a fan of changing words to fit perfomance.

However, learning to lift the life off of the page and deliver is an actor's job. This takes an enormous amount of energy and focus.

Writing happens one word at a time. Acting one moment, but the moment can incapsulate so much more than a word, a sentence or an action. We must field several balls at the same time.

If we go into our brain, we risk approaching a scene like a list to be checked off instead of the experience of the character we inhabit. We look to those who's job it is to cast for the way to play the scene. Their job is different that ours. Remember that.

We cannot read. We cannot wait for permission. We must be willing to hear no in order to achieve the big YES!
